Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • 1. ALCEU journal accepts original and unpublished works in the form of scientific articles, interviews, essays, reviews, and translations on a rolling basis (rolling submission). Submitted manuscripts must not be under simultaneous evaluation by any other journal; otherwise, the situation must be properly justified in the "Comments to the Editor" field;
  • 2. Works must be written in Portuguese, Spanish, or English and signed by at least one author holding a PhD (doctorate), either as a sole author or in co-authorship with doctoral candidates, Master’s degree holders, or Master's students.
  • 3. We provide a template for manuscript submission that authors should rigorously follow in preparing their files of at least 10 and no more than 20 pages. The submission must be sent in two separate files: one version with authorship and one version without authorship.

    The anonymized version is mandatory to ensure the integrity of the double-blind peer review process. Please ensure that the following measures have been taken with regard to the text and file properties:.

    The authors of the document must remove their names from the text, using the word “Author” and the year in references and footnotes instead of the authors' names, article title, etc.;
    . In Microsoft Office documents, the author's identification must also be removed from the file properties (see the Word program menu), starting with File in the main menu of the Word program (from Microsoft): File > Save as > Tools (or Options on Mac) > Security > Remove personal information from file properties when saving > Save.

    The file format in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, or RTF is mandatory.
  • 4. It is mandatory to provide the institutional affiliation, academic degree, email address, and ORCID identifier for all authors.
  • 5. A summary of no more than 150 words must be provided in the original language of the text, in addition to an abstract or resumen. It is also mandatory to list at least four keywords (or palabras clave).
  • 6. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined below in Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Authors are responsible for their texts and the ideas they convey. They must commit to the good ethical practices of the scientific field by referencing sources and repudiating plagiarism.

Submissions must follow the ABNT NBR 10520:2023 standard for citations.

Include photos and/or figures in the text body, in the appropriate spots, with captions and sources.

Submissions in Portuguese should follow the New Orthographic Agreement (decree nº 6.583).

Authors must send a digital copy of the Authorization to Publish Agreement, duly filled and signed, when submitting an original manuscript to ALCEU.

Funding institutions, whether public or private, academic or not, involved in the research for the submitted manuscript should be duly acknowledged. Authors must inform their affiliations to assure there is no conflict of interest in the publication of academic research.

Noticing any error or inaccuracy in a work published in the ALCEU journal, they must communicate to the editors so that the necessary corrections are made and indicated in the article published in question

Experiments with living beings must follow current legal procedures and be properly documented so that fictional cases are not taken as real research.

The interval for publishing articles by the same author is one year.

Double-blind peer review of originals

Every original manuscript submitted to the journal will go through a preliminary evaluation based on the following criteria: originality, relevance and suitability in relation to themes in communication, culture, and politics; if the main author holds a PhD degree; use of the template for manuscript submission; absence of elements that identify the authors in the text body.

Then, submitted manuscripts will be assigned to at least two reviewers. The Editorial Board may accept, reject or request revisions in manuscripts based on the double-blind peer review process.

To ensure the integrity of the double-blind peer review process in submitting to this journal, every effort should be made to prevent the identities of the authors and reviewers from being known to each other. This involves authors, editors and reviewers (who upload documents as part of their review) to verify that the following measures have been taken in relation to the text and file properties:

  • The authors must exclude their names from the text, using the literal "Author" and year in the references and footnotes, instead of the name of the authors, affiliation, e-mail, etc;
  • In Microsoft Office documents (or similar programs), the author identification must also be removed from the file properties (see the Word program menu), starting with File in the main menu: File> Save as> Tools (or Options on Mac )> Security> Remove personal information from file properties when saving> Save.

The time it takes us to consider manuscripts for publication depends on the volume of submissions to the journal.
