Abstract

In this article, we provide a historical, thematic, and aesthetic overview of the works and authors that make up the audiovisual universe of video art in Brasília, with the aim of constructing a unique retrospective account that will stimulate new studies and research. The scarcity of publications addressing this topic encourages us to empirically present facts and events that marked the process of constructing the creative universe around video art in the city of Brasília and its surroundings, pointing to the need to construct a historiography that does not yet exist. Here, we seek to identify elements that will allow us to follow this path. We analyze how video has become present in the academic research environment and also how it is produced by independent producers, even if they are in some way related to the institutions that supported them. The relationship between cinema and video is also addressed in a generalized way, considering their common origins in the audiovisual universe.
